Dorrie is a loving, creative and very spirited child. Mom and Dad were frustrated she was not yet potty trained. They had tried everything– potty chairs, rewarding, begging, pleading, punishing and still no results. One day, mom received a call from the day care director at work, “Oh, no”, she thought, “What now?” The director said, “Dorrie has something to tell you”, and put the child on the phone. “Mommy, I went in the potty 3 times today!” exclaimed the excited child. Mom was ecstatic! She had been doing things differently and it worked! She had decided to “let go” of the situation. When the child had an accident, and started running off, afraid she was in trouble, mom would say, “Dorrie, come back and let me help you change, I’m not mad at you.” She asked the child every time she changed her if she needed to go and Dorrie would say “no” and mom just let it go at that. Her patience had finally paid off. And to top it all off, when Daddy picked her up that evening, Dorrie was excited to again tell of her achievement and as soon as they got home proudly showed him how she could do it. Excellent job of detaching with love Mom and Dad!
